Birmingham APA

The American Poolplayers Association (APA) was introduced into the Birmingham area in 1990. Before coming international, the APA was first known as the Bud Light League and then the Busch League due to the relationship that was built with it’s national sponsors at that time. Starting with only a hand full of teams and limited nights of play, the APA developed interest quickly and started to grow. The local pool players in our area quickly realized that there was now an organized billiard league with a handicap system that allowed players to compete no matter their level of skill. At the beginning, only the game of 8-Ball was played but 9-Ball quickly followed along with other formats designed for multi levels of participation such as Scotch Doubles, Double Jeopardy, Masters Divisions, Single Qualifiers and more.

Over the years, there has been various League Operators who helped to develop the Birmingham APA League. In May 2010, Skip & Joyce Lassiter purchased the league from previous League Operators, Walter & Emily Mims. Skip has played in this local league since it began in 1990 and Joyce started playing in 2007. Since it’s introduction in 1990, the Birmingham APA family has grown to over 300 local teams who enjoy shooting pool. There is even league play every night of the week so you can choose which night, or nights, best fits your schedule. Come join the fun!

About the APA

The APA is the world’s largest amateur pool league with more than 250,000 members competing in 8-Ball and 9-Ball Leagues throughout North America and Japan. Click here for more information about the history of the APA.

What makes the “APA” so successful… One of the most unique factors of our league is our Equalizer® system which is a handicap system that creates a level playing field for all players so that everyone can play and anyone can win. Other leagues have attempted to imitate our system but have fallen far short. Don’t be fooled. Make friends, have fun, play pool and PLAY WITH THE BEST!

No other organization in pool gives ordinary players a chance to win a share in the more than $1 MILLION in cash and prizes paid out through its national tournaments.

For any player’s scores to count toward their team, they must be a paid member of the American Poolplayers Association (APA). All new APA members must fill out an APA Membership Application to join our Birmingham APA League. This will provide us with the necessary info needed to enter that new member into our APA database. Our membership applications can be found in all team packets and at some Host Locations. Click on the below link for a printable version of this application.
